The British police have charged a Zimbabwean man with strangling his wife to death at her home in Hatfield, Hertfordshire on Tuesday. He was expected to appear in court on Friday.
Dexter Landsberg, 36, is believed to have assaulted his 33 year old wife Madina before killing her. The couple, with three kids, had been living seperately in recent months following reports of persistent domestic problems.
Landsberg, a church pastor, had moved out and was staying with another woman in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. There was a restraining order against him from visiting his wife, a former Girls High student in Harare.
SW Radio Africa is reliably informed Landsberg had a long history of physically and emotionally abusing his wife.
On the day of the murder he visited Madina at the house she shared with her children. There are questions being asked how he managed to get inside the house since there was a restraining order.
A source close to the family said nobody knows exactly what happened. Relatives who viewed Madina’s body on Thursday noticed bruises to her face, suggesting she had been subjected to a physcial assault.
‘After he strangled her, he went to his kids’ school, picked them up and dropped them home telling them mum was sleeping inside. He then drove off.
‘But he was stupid that he left his mobile phone inside the house, and was nowhere to be seenfor nearly 24 hours. He was only arrested after police saw him sleeping his car,’ the source said.
Tributes to Madina have been pouring in from devastated friends and family, including her mum Aisha Abdul who lives in Borehamwood, Herts. Her family have described Madina as an angel, a lovely mother with a great sense of humour. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile in South Africa, a jealous Zimbabwean lover stabbed to death his ex girlfriend’s new partner, cut out his heart and ate it with a knife and fork, according to police.
Police spokesman Frederick van Wyk told the Cape Times that officers were called to the gruesome scene at a house in Cape Town’s Gugulethu township by frantic neighbours.
‘On the scene they found a suspect, a Zimbabwean national, busy eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork,’ he said. The woman at the centre of the love triangle told police that her former lover had visited the house where she was living with her current partner and they had chatted together before he gave her money to buy liquor and she left.
When she returned she found her partner, 62-year-old Mbuyiselo Manona, had been stabbed. Neighbours said they peered through the house windows to see the man cutting out Manona’s heart and eating it.
