Baba Jukwa continues to cause mayhem in Zanu PF senior circles
By Tichaona Sibanda SW Radio Africa 26 June 2014
Phillip Kudzayi, the elder brother of the Sunday Mail editor Edmund who was arrested by the police last week, handed himself in to authorities on Tuesday.
Phillip Kudzayi appeared in court on Thursday facing the same charges as his brother, that of insurgency, terrorism, banditry, sabotage and subverting a constitutionally elected government.
He was remanded in custody to July 7th, the same as his younger brother Edmund. Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, said the two had colluded in the running of the Baba Jukwa Facebook page.
While authorities claim Kudzayi was the faceless internet mole Baba Jukwa who rattled ZANU PF in the run-up to last year’s elections with embarrassing exposes, the editor of the Sunday Mail strenuously denies the charges leveled against him.
However the editor has admitted that he is Amai Jukwa, the Facebook character used to direct attacks at opposition figures, especially MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
Edmund, who worked for ZANU PF as a media and promotional consultant ahead of the elections, disclosed in his affidavit that in fact he worked with the military in efforts to unmask Baba Jukwa.
Our correspondent Simon Muchemwa told us the Baba Jukwa saga is becoming murkier amid reports Edmund may have information on who was feeding the Facebook character with sensitive information.
Edmund is an IT expert and it’s believed during his stint at ZANU PF he may have also hacked into emails of ‘so many’ party officials, including ministers and members of the security establishment, in the search for moles who allegedly fed Baba Jukwa with information.
In the affidavit that he filed with the High court, Edmund admits working with the Ministry of Defence to expose the identities of people who were collaborating with BJ.
‘It’s believed Kudzayi came across information that is damning to senior party officials and now they want to silence him through the court, something that editor admits,’ Muchemwa said.
