The National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) will hold its congress next month, where members are expected to endorse a plan by the lobby group to form a new political party. Munjonzi Mutandiri, the international relations representative for the NCA, told SW Radio’s Hidden Story program on Wednesday that the congress will be held in Harare on 28th September. Mutandiri, a close confidante of Lovemore Madhuku the chairman of the NCA, said a new leadership will emerge from the congress next month. Its believed Madhuku, a University of Zimbabwe Law professor, is earmarked to become the new leader of the party, if the congress passes the resoultion to launch a party. Its believed members will also be asked to suggest a name for the new party. SW Radio Africa is reliably informed the new party will be launched in December this year and will welcome anyone who wishes to join, regardless of their previous political persuasion. Although he declined to confirm reports of the formation of the new party, Mutandiri claimed it was clear that both ZANU PF and the MDC-T had no solution to the problems affecting Zimbabwe. ‘Both parties are clueless and there is need to come up with an alternative. The biggest mistake the MDC-T did in joining the inclusive government was to suspend the reform agenda.‘This played into the hands of ZANU PF who used it to plot the downfall of the MDC. While ZANU PF emerged victorious, all their energy is spent ensuring they kill off Morgan Tsvangirai or any opposition instead of planning ahead,’ explained Mutandiri.
