Pishai Muchauraya, the MDC-T spokesman for Manicaland province, was on Friday acquitted of charges that he made death threats against Amos Kutiya, who was a campaign manager to his political rival Geoff Nyarota. Last month the MDC-T MP for Makoni South was convicted of threatening Nyarota and his aunt, Sophia Chibayambuya, with death and ordered to pay $200 or spend 20 days in jail. He appealed that decision. At the end of the state case Friday, at which three witnesses gave evidence, the magistrate ruled that they all gave contradicting evidence. ‘At the end of the day, justice has prevailed,’ said Muchauraya, who went on to thank friends, his lawyer and the people of Makoni south for their support ‘during this tough period.’‘It was very painful to spend most of my time in courts as an accused person. It was also very expensive to travel between Mutare, Harare and Nyazura to attend these court cases and also to report to Nyazura police station as a bail condition,’ the former MP added.
