Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was on Wednesday released from hospital after going down with a fever,’ the MDC-T spokesman said.
Tsvangirai, 62, was taken to a Harare hospital as a precaution this week because he was not feeling well. He was discharged before noon on Wednesday. His health issues led to him missing the workers day rally in Highfields on Sunday.
‘Tests have been conducted and everything is normal. The doctors diagnosed him as suffering from flu and fever, not anything more serious, and have cleared him to go back and recuperate from home,’ Mwonzora said.
Tsvangirai’s medical team advised him on Tuesday evening that he was making good progress on all fronts and said they are confident he will fully recover.
However his hospitalization might mean slowing down his hectic work schedule, that has seen him addressing rallies almost every weekend.
‘He’s eager to get back to the office,’ Mwonzora said, adding that the MDC-T leader and his family are grateful for the excellent care he received at the Avondale Trauma centre. He said Tsvangirai will be back on the trail next week visiting Manicaland province.
‘He is doing great and is exuding the energy, the vibrancy and certainly the mental acuity that he always has,’ said Mwonzora.
A close family source told SW Radio Africa that Tsvangirai declined suggestions that he be airlifted to seek medical assistance outside the country’s borders, insisting that the former Prime Minister had full confidence in the health institutions of Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile the suspended MDC-T deputy treasurer-general, Elton Mangoma, on Tuesday reportedly implicated Job Sikhala in a case in which nine members are accused of assaulting him at the party’s headquarters in February.
Sikhala rejoined the MDC-T two months ago. He had left the party in 2005.
Mangoma was testifying at the Harare magistrates’ court where Francis Machimbidzofa, Enock Mukudu, Stefani Jahwi, Samson Nerwande, Rhino Mashaya, James Chidakwa, Denford Ndadziore, Shakespeare Mukoyi and Paul Gorekore, are facing assault charges.
Their defence lawyer, Douglas Mwonzora, told us Mangoma’s case against his clients was very weak as he’s failed to link the nine to the assault. The case was postponed to June 3rd.
